For most people, Christianity is just one of the many religions competing for membership. In fact, being a Christian or joining the ‘religion’ is not as thrilling today. Talking about salvation and holiness is just not trending anymore. Why?  Well, the scandals that have rocked Christianity come second to none.

On the other hand, the entire faith is pegged on Jesus (a person that many loved to hate). Unbelievably, millions of ‘Christians’ hate their LORD to the latter; because he makes things too easy. For instance, he says that you only need to believe in his death to be born again; this goes against the legalistic and complex processes created by man to gain salvation.

While most religions are about man trying to find God, Christianity is quite the opposite. In other words, a loving God reaches out for man with unmatched love. Before we proceed with Christianity, it is important that we understand why there is religion in the first place.

Well, every religion tries to answer the four main questions i.e. Who am I? Where did I come from? Why am I here? And What happens when I die?

Every major religion including evolution tries to answer these questions. Christianity and other Abrahamic religions subscribe to the creation theory. However, evolution offers one of the most outrageous explanations.

For instance, it insists that we oozed from a primordial soup, changed from this soup to apes and into humans finally. I here we are still ‘evolving’ it something higher (this might take millions of years, so be patient).

While listening to one pro-evolutionist, I gathered that this faith stems from the Big Bang Theory (a theory that was proven to false dozens of decades ago).

The Big Bang suggests that all of us came from a rock/dust whose origin they cannot explain to date. In fact, I think they can explain it only that it will bring God in the picture (as the creator of the dust, matter and the universe); something that the evolution religion cannot accept.

Enough of the evolution and related religions let us focus on how one becomes a Christian the easy way (the Bible’s way):

1. Believe that you are created by God

Primarily, one has to BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE CREATED BY GOD. Trust me, any other alternative explanation of your existence requires more than faith to believe.  I mean, there is no way you could have come from a pond, it is not only illogical but even its proponents have found nothing close to a proof.

They, therefore, invoke the ‘billions of years ago’ phrase to cover-up for their ineptitude. You, therefore, UST believe that God created you in a peculiar way (Psalm 139: 13 – 16), and that you are here for a purpose and that God has a plan to give you eternal life.  Let me insist that Gog loves you and would want to relate with you (John 3:16, John 17:3).

2.  Agree that God is Holy and you are Sinful

You also have to AGREE THAT GOD IS HOLY AND YOU ARE SINFUL. There is, therefore, a barrier between us i.e. sin makes it impossible for God to have a relationship with us.  Now, what is sin? Well, defining sin is not as complicated and based on rationalization as others would have us believe.

It simply points to a lack of understanding or care for what is right (1 John 3:4). In fact, you choose to do what is wrong deliberately (James 4:17). Sadly, that is who every human being is; we are born in sin and are under its bondage. Unless freed from this bondage only death awaits us, for the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23, Isaiah 59:2).

3. Know that all is NOT lost

You need to KNOW THAT ALL IS NOT LOST. You can get free from sin, escape death and have a relationship with God and (most importantly) it does not involve hard work. You only need to know who Jesus is and what he did on your behalf.

Yes, Jesus is the way the truth and the life and there is no way you are going to heaven without him (John 14:6). Jesus (for those who don’t know) is God taking the human body, dying for humans and resurrecting to symbolize that death and sin have no more power over those who will believe.

Now, this may sound awkward; God dying? Well, it was the only way to rescue man.  Remember God is perfect, loving and just. So there is no way he is going to accept a sinful person into heaven. In fact, justice demands that a sinful man dies for his sins.

On the other hand, he is loving and should forgive sin. So, the mystery was that man has to pay for his sins but also must be forgiven. The only way this could be achieved is if Christ (perfect and sinless) paid for your sin by dying on your behalf so that Good can now justly accept and forgive you (1 Peter 3:18).

4. Believe in Jesus

As long as you accept as true these facts, you have qualified for salvation and the benefits that come with it. The main word is to BE FULLY PERSUADED that your forgiveness was paid for by the propitiation death of God’s only begotten son.

It is also compulsory that you confess your trust in Jesus and publicly declare your new faith (John 1: 12, Roman 10: 9 – 10). In short, you respond with belief in Christ.

5. Receive Jesus into your life

As long as you are fully persuaded about what Jesus did for you on the cross, it is time to receive him. This is done through a simple prayer. Trust me; there are no specific words to speak. Simply express your belief and request the Lord to renew you and forgive your sins. Here is a sample prayer:

Dear God I know that my sin has separated me from you. Thank you that Jesus Christ died in my place. I ask Jesus to forgive my sin and to come into my life. Please begin to direct my life. Thanks for giving me eternal life. In Jesus’ name. Amen

Note:
Just like a newborn baby, you cannot fend for yourself; you need guidance to grow in your new faith. Simply leave a comment if you accepted Christ through this post and I will direct you where I can. Alternatively, you can read about the benefits of being born again. God bless you.
