Have you ever wondered what you stand to gain were you to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior? Or, are you a new believer who is oblivious of the benefits of being born again? Do you want to know what privileges come with your new faith? Well, you have come to the right place.
In this post, we are going to look into the advantages salvation. But before that, let’s answer the 1 million dollar question; what does is it mean to be born again? Whats’ salvation/regeneration/new birth? Here is the abridged answer:
To be born again is to be delivered from sin and its consequence (eternal death) and to be ushered into God’s Kingdom to enjoy eternal life; through simple faith in Jesus. It’s as simple as accepting that as a sinner you can not please a Holy God thus need help to do have a relationship with Him. That Jesus died in your place, paid for your sins and made it possible for you ( imperfect man) to relate with a perfect God. That your new relationship is depends entirely on Jesus’ finished work at the cross and nothing else…not even your good deeds or failures.
If you are yet to believe, please read “How to become a Christian” then continue with this post. There are hundreds spiritual things you enjoy as a born again Christian. For purpose of objectivity, I will list about 10 benefits of being born again.
1. You are assured of your salvation
It is normal to doubt if your salvation is real as a new believer. However, you need not to worry and grow doubt as there is full assurance that Christ has come into your life (John 14:20), your sins have been forgiven (Colossians 2:13 – 14) and that you have eternal life (1 John 5:13).
2. You enjoy God’s Unconditional Love
It doesn’t matter what situation you are in now, one thing is sure; God loves you, chose you and calls you his child (Ephesians 1:4 – 5). Whatever people or the enemy may promote in your mind to the contrary is a clever lie that your must refute by trusting more in God.
3. You have a New Life in Christ
You might not see this, but it is true that you are a new creation and have a new life is in Christ. Like a newborn baby, you will have to grow and learn a lot about this new life though. My dear, you have a relationship that will continue the rest of your life (2 Corinthians 5:17, Colossians 2:6-7).
4. You enjoy the privilege of prayer
Unlike when you were a nonbeliever, you can now talk to God as one would a friend. The good thing about this communication is that your friend (God) talks back and answers your requests. The answer might not be instantly visible but it is always there for every prayer made.
It is also interesting to note that you can talk to your heavenly father on virtually any topic; nothing is too private, sensitive or insignificant to discuss (Philippians 4:6)!
5. You have the treasure of God’s Word (The Bible)
Just like you would expect a manual for every gadget you buy, God has availed to you his manual i.e. the Bible. It is the most direct way God answers most of our questions; trust it (2 Timothy 3:16). One thing though, there are hundreds of Bible versions out there and you must choose carefully.
If you speak Hebrew and Greek, there is no big deal as the Bible was originally written in those languages (Old Testament – Hebrew and New Testament – Greek). However, if you depend on translations I will recommend you read “The right Bible Translation”.
6. You have a friend in Jesus
Trust me; this world can be so lonely at times. Those we often confide in have ended up betraying our trusts. Won’t it be better to have someone reliable (sympathizes with our situations and do something about it)? I mean a friend you can confide in without the fear of betrayal. This is exactly what you get in Jesus. In fact, it is only through him that you have access to God (Colossians 1:19 – 20).
7. You can enjoy a totally new life
Unlike when you are under the bondage of sin, you can now live a godly life and prove your love for God. As if that is not enough, you have fellow believers and Jesus to help you live this beautiful life of accountability and responsibility (John 14:15 – 16). All these will give you back your lost dignity and sense of belonging.
8. You can now Resist Temptation
Vulnerability to temptation has kept many from accepting Jesus. The good news is that once you are born again, you have the power to resist temptations and any form of deception. This does not mean you would not fall into these lures once you accept Jesus.
In fact, you may occasionally fall for Satan’s enticement. However, the choice is yours as you are no longer helpless when confronted with sin. Interestingly, God also promises to give you away out (1 Corinthians 10:13); just responsive and take God’s free ticket.
9. You can continue to receive Forgiveness
As mentioned before, you may still mess up even though you are a believer. However, God’s love is will continue to be sufficient and forgiveness is assured as long as you own up. (1 John 1.9).
10. You enjoy fellowship with other believers
Being born again connects you to millions of believers across the world. You can worship with them, get encouraged and study the Bible together. In some fellowships, new believers are taught how to memorize scriptures (Ephesians 6:17) and how to witness (Romans 1:16). Bottom line, you will realize you long term salvation goal i.e. to be like Christ (Philippians 1:6).
